Fairfield's choirs competed in Show Choir Nationals held at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, TN March 29-31, 2012. Pure Elegance, Fairfield's all-female show choir, received top honors in their division, sweeping all awards for Best Combo, Best Choreography, Best General Effect, Best Vocals, and the overall GRAND CHAMPION women's choir! The Fairfield Choraliers, our top mixed choir, was ranked in 1st place during the preliminary round, and took home awards for Best Female Stage Presence- Shayla Gragston, Best Female Soloist- Michaela Bridge, Best Choreography, Best Tech Crew, and the People's Choice award. Competing in the Finals against tough competition, Choraliers were awarded with the Overall 1st Runner-Up trophy! Rhythm Express, our jr. high show choir, took home awards for Best Combo, Best Tech Crew, and 2nd Runner-Up in their division!
FHS show choirs shined at the Edgewood "Contest of Champions" held in Ellettsville, Indiana on Saturday, March 24, 2012. Fairfield's all-female show choir, Pure Elegance, swept their division taking Best Vocals, Best Choreography, Best Instrumental Group, and overall Grand Champion! Maggie Kurzner won the Outstanding Performer award, and soloist Morgan Curtner moved on to Solo Finals in the evening, taking overall 1st Runner-Up! The Fairfield Choraliers took the last spot of the day to perform to a packed house and came out on top once again, taking awards for Best Show Design, Best Tech Crew, and overall Grand Champion of the event. Congrats also to Mitchell Wiese who was chosen as Choraliers' Outstanding Performer!
February 25 2012 the Fairfield Show Choirs traveled to Mooresville, Indiana to compete in the 20th Annual Spotlighter Invitational. Facing difficult competition from the reigning State champion show choir of Indiana, the North Central "Counterpoints," the Fairfield "Choraliers" took Overall Grand Champion and Best Instrumental Ensemble. Our women's show choir, "Pure Elegance" took an impressive 1st Runner-Up in their division of over 10 women's show choirs. Senior Caitlyn Beatty was awarded Best Performer for both show choirs. Congratulations Caitlyn!
February 10-11 2012, Fairfield show choirs took Loveland High School's "Showfest" Show Choir Invitational by storm, with three impressive wins out of the twenty-four choirs in competition. Rhythm Express took their "Rock the Night" contest show on Friday night and took home awards for Best Performer- Graham Holthaus, Best Combo, Best Choreography, and overall Grand Champion. Pure Elegance's "Big Dollhouse" show swept all caption awards on Saturday, with Maggie Kurzner taking Best Performer, Overall Best Vocals, Overall Best Choreography, and Ladies division Grand Champion. The Fairfield Choraliers had the highest score during the preliminary round (including a perfect "10" score sheet from one of the judges!) and "wowed" the crowds with their take on Jules Verne's epic novel, Around the World In 80 Days. Jordan Quisno was named Best Performer, and Eli Mathews was named Best Male Soloist. The group also captured awards for Best Vocals, Best Choreography, and Overall Grand Champion.
The Choraliers and Pure Elegance competed at the Piqua Invitational on January 21, 2012. Choraliers took home an overall 2nd Runner-Up and Pure Elegance a fifth runner-up. Congrats to Caitlyn Beatty as best overall female performer of the day, and also to A.J. Johnson as Best Performer for the Choraliers!
Rhythm Express debuted their contest season at the Beavercreek Invitational on Friday, January 13, 2012. The group dazzled audiences, taking awards for Best Tech Crew, Best Costumes, Best Female Vocalist- Emily Niehaus, Best Performer- Connor Bernard, Best Vocals, Best Choreography, and overall Grand Champion! Congrats to all the students, parents, and fans who made this great showing possible!
The FHS Choraliers competed in the National Show Choir Finals held at the Indianapolis Convention Center on April 30. After a strong day performance round, the Choraliers were asked to return for the final sing-off as the top five choirs in the nation returned for the last round of competition. The Choraliers earned awards for Best Horn Section, Best Combo, and took overall 3rd Runner-Up! Congrats to all for an amazing season!
The Fairfield High School Choraliers competed in the FAME Chicago qualifier for the National Championship Show Choir Series on Saturday, April 2, 2011. We are proud to announce that the Choraliers took home the award for Best Show Design, and qualified for the National Finals in Indianapolis on Saturday, April 30! This is free trip including 2 nights accommodations for the Choralier singer/dancers, tech crew, and combo to show their stuff one final time!
On March 19 the Fairfield show choirs competed in their last combined event of the year- the Grand River National Show Choir Invitational held in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Following a grueling 10-hour bus ride, the three show choirs performed at the La Crosse Center amid competition from as far as California. Fairfield's Rhythm Express took home an overall 8th place finish (against all high school choirs in competition) and 2nd runner-up in the Unisex/Prep division. Senior Michael Peoples won both the Best Male Vocalist within a show as well as the Solo Competition with his performance of "Flying Without Wings." Michael also received a $200 music scholarship and performed at the start of the finals round. Fairfield's all-female show choir, Pure Elegance, took home 1st Runner-Up in the Unisex/Prep division and also made the Finals round and finished with an overall 5th Runner-Up placement. The Fairfield show choirs also took home the "Spirit of Grand River" Award and Best Tech Crew. A special thanks goes out to all of our parents who worked behind the scenes to put all of our shows on stage at this event! The Fairfield Choraliers took home 1st Place honors in the daytime round along with Best Ballad. In the finals performance, the Choraliers swept Best Vocals and Best Choreography along with Overall Grand Champion, which included a check for $2,500 towards the show choir.
Fairfield High School Choraliers, Symphonic Choir, and Freshman Choir competed in OMEA Large Group Contest March 11-12, 2011. Each choir received an Excellent rating. A special congrats to Choraliers for their superior rating in sight reading in Class AA (first time in that class) and to Freshman Choir (first time ever at OMEA HS Large Group Contest!)
Poca MusicFest February 5, 2011: Rhythm Express swept all awards for the middle school division, including Best Band, Best Vocals, Best Choreography, and Grand Champion. Pure Elegance was named 1st Runner-Up in their division, Best Stage Crew, and Morgan Curtner took home Best Female Vocalist. The Fairfield Choraliers took Champion in Class A, Best Instrumental Feature for Mauki McGruder, Best Costumes, Best Set Design, Best Combo, Judge's Choice for closing song, People's Choice, Best Choreography, Best Vocals, and Overall Grand Champion. This marks the Choraliers' fourth Grand Championship title this season, also making them undefeated in three states! Next up for the show choirs is our annual hosted event, the Crystal Classic on March 5, 2011 at Fairfield High School. 32 show choirs from six states will be competing under one roof!
